New Manchester United signing Marouane Fellaini could make his debut for the Premier League champions. Wayne Rooney is not expected to be rushed back from a head injury so Danny Welbeck should support Robin van Persie, while Chris Smalling may replace Phil Jones at right-back. Crystal Palace new boy Barry Bannan and loan signing Cameron Jerome are both likely to feature at Old Trafford. Jonathan Parr could return after missing five months through injury.

Aston Villa’s new Czech striker Libor Kozak could make his debut. Defenders Nathan Baker and Antonio Luna may also feature after recent knocks, but Charles N’Zogbia remains a long-term absentee with an Achilles injury. Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye could return to the starting line-up after his proposed transfer window move to Arsenal failed to materialise. Loan signing Loic Remy could make his first start, while Steven Taylor and Cheick Tiote are available again.

Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan is doubtful with a hamstring injury. The Potters hope Charlie Adam will be fit despite withdrawing from the Scotland squad because of a back spasm. Manchester City may hand a debut to Stevan Jovetic, but David Silva is out with a thigh problem. Micah Richards is still struggling with a hamstring injury, Gael Clichy has been ruled out with a knock and new signing Martin Demichelis is set to miss six weeks with a knee injury.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Etienne Capoue and Aaron Lennon are out and Vlad Chiriches is unavailable as Spurs are yet to get a work permit for him. Norwich’s Gary Hooper could make the bench after a shin injury delayed his debut after his move from Celtic. Ryan Bennett is fit again after needing stitches in his left knee, but Elliott Bennett is a long-term absentee.

Everton’s on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku is ineligible against his parent club but James McCarthy and Gareth Barry could make their debuts. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Samuel Eto’o will make his debut although he might not start. The London side have no fresh injury problems.
