Arsenal beat managerless Crystal Palace to stay top of the league, despite having Mikel Arteta sent off.

Arteta scored a penalty after Adlene Guedioura’s foul on Serge Gnabry before being dismissed on 65 minutes for a professional foul on Marouane Chamakh.

Palace came close to a leveller but Joel Ward’s shot hit the crossbar and Wojciech Szczesny brilliantly saved a Mile Jedinak volley.

Olivier Giroud secured Arsenal’s win when he headed in late on.
