Head-to-head

The two clubs have each won seven of their 16 previous league meetings. Reading have beaten Manchester City in three of their four Premier League contests.

The most recent meeting between these sides was an FA Cup quarter-final in March 2011, when a late goal from Micah Richards gave City a 1-0 victory at home.

Manchester City

Roberto Mancini celebrated three years as City manager on 19 December. His side have only won two of their last five league matches (W2, D2, L1).

They have not lost successive home league matches since 1-0 defeats by Manchester United and Everton four years ago. The last time they went three home matches without a win was October-November 2009, when they drew all three fixtures.
The defending league champions have scored more goals (33) and recovered more points from losing positions (15) than any other side bar Manchester United. Only Stoke have conceded fewer goals than City.

Mancini’s side have won all 13 of the Premier League matches that Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have started together. They are also unbeaten in the 21 league games in which Aguero has scored (W20, D1).

Last weekend’s win over Newcastle marked the first time City had scored more than once in the opening half of a Premier League game this season.

Pablo Zabaleta could make his 100th Premier League start for Manchester City.

Reading

Reading have suffered six successive league defeats, their worst run since an eight-match losing streak in the top flight between December 2007 and February 2008. They were relegated that season.

They have the division’s worst away record, having collected only two points out of a possible 27.

Brian McDermott’s side have dropped an unrivalled 17 points from winning positions this season. They are the only team not to have won a game in which they opened the scoring (D3, L2).

The Royals have conceded a league-high 36 goals in 17 games.

According to Opta, they have now faced 306 shots at goal – more than any other side in the top five European leagues this season.
