Head-to-head

The Baggies are undefeated in three matches against the Magpies since the two clubs returned to the top flight together in 2010 (W2, D1). Roy Hodgson’s men won 3-2 on Tyneside earlier this season, one of only two clubs to have beaten Newcastle on their own patch.
There have been 40 scored in 12 previous Premier League encounters between the sides. The last five encounters have averaged five goals per game.
This will be the 100th top-flight league fixture between the clubs – West Brom have won 37 compared to Newcastle’s 35.
Victory for West Brom would give them a first league double over Newcastle since the 1977-78 season.

West Brom

West Brom have won their last two home matches, keeping clean sheets in both. They have only won three successive Premier League matches at The Hawthorns once before, between December 2008 and January 2009.
The Baggies are looking to complete their second league double of the season, having already beaten Wolves home and away.
Peter Odemwingie is one goal away from becoming the first man to score 25 Premier League goals for the club. He has three goals in two matches against Newcastle.
If selected, West Brom’s Paul Scharner will be making his 200th English Premier League appearance. He will be the first Austrian to reach this landmark.

Newcastle

Victory against Norwich last time out ended a run of four league games without a win.
The Magpies’ clean sheet against the Canaries was their first in five league matches, during which time they had conceded 11 goals.
Alan Pardew’s side have failed to win a single league match this season when conceding the opening goal (D4, L5).
Demba Ba has scored 16 leagues goals this season – the most by a Newcastle player in a single season since Alan Shearer (22 goals) in 2003-04. However, he has not scored in his last five games.
