Some Facts
Head-to-head
Manchester United have scored 21 unanswered goals in their last five games against Wigan – including three 5-0 wins.
Wigan’s last goal against United was scored by Hugo Rodallega in a 2-1 home defeat in May 2009. The Latics took the lead in that game; since then the Red Devils have scored 23 goals without reply.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have won every previous encounter with Wigan. That includes 13 Premier League matches and the 2006 Carling Cup final.
Wigan
The Latics’ defeat at Chelsea was only their second loss in nine league games.
They have scored 14 times in their 16 league matches at the DW Stadium this season and are the only top-flight side to average less than a goal per home game.
They have netted just once in the opening 20 minutes of Premier League games this season – that was Jordi Gomez’s seventh-minute strike in a 3-3 draw with Blackburn in November.
Manchester United
If the Red Devils win their remaining three away games they will equal the Premier League record for most away points (48), set by Chelsea in 2004-05.
They have won their last eight league games. It is the best run of form by a top-flight side in a single season since United themselves won 11 on the trot in 2008-09.
The Red Devils have not won any of the five Premier League games in which they have conceded the first goal this season.
Wayne Rooney has scored 10 goals in 14 league and cup games against Wigan.
