Sunderland 1-2 Blackburn – Carling Cup – Highlights
Two goals in five minutes saw Blackburn dump Sunderland out of the Carling Cup.
The home side dominated with Kenwyne Jones hitting the underside of the bar with a header and a Paul Robinson reflex save denying Danny Collins.
Blackburn went ahead against the run of play when Christopher Samba set up substitute Roque Santa Cruz to head in.
Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley put the ball into his own net from a Matt Derbyshire cross before Jones pulled a goal back from a long-range effort.
Jones’ first goal since returning from serious injury ensured a testing final 20 minutes for Blackburn, but Sunderland were made to pay for a series of missed opportunities.
For the second time in five days Sunderland lost a home game after dominating for long periods as they slipped to a fourth successive defeat.
